The Greeniest Printer Concept

As the "Go-Green" virus starts to spread in, major industries are starting to re-think and re-produce their setting and processes to be more eco-friendly. And one of those is the printing industry, with major printer manufacturers putting eco-friendly features on their printers and machine equipment. Together with environment-conscious shops who offers environment-friendly printer supplies, they encourage printer users to support green printing.

But some environment-enthusiast together with their imagination take "green printing" into another level by introducing some innovative concept of futuristic Green Printers:

  • RITI Printer Concept by Jeon Hwan Ju

Winning the Greener Gadgets Design Competition with his RITI Printer, Jeon Hwan Ju design concept takes your coffee or tea dregs and turns them into an eco-friendly alternative to conventional ink. To use the RITI printer, you place the coffee or tea dregs into the ink cartridge with some water, insert a piece of paper and move the cartridge backwards and forwards into the slot while drawing on the paper. Using you own kinetic energy to power the process means there is no electricity needed to use this printer.

Amnesty International Day

"It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness" - Amnesty International Motto

Amnesty International Day is celebrated every May 28th, its an important day to recognize the need to protect human rights around the world. It was started by the Amnesty International Organization commonly known as "Amnesty" or "AI", a non-governmental organization focused on human rights with objective "to conduct research and generate action to prevent and end grave abuses of human rights, and to demand justice for those whose rights have been violated."

Amnesty International was founded in London in 1961 by British lawyer Peter Benenson when he launches a worldwide campaign, "Appeal for Amnesty 1961", with the publication of an article in the Observer newspaper titled "The Forgotten Prisoners". This article was written after Benenson learned about two Portuguese students  from Coimbra who was sentenced to seven years in imprisonment for raising a toast to freedom. Benenson wrote, "Open your newspaper, any day of the week, and you will find a report from somewhere in the world of someone being imprisoned, tortured or executed because his opinions or religion are unacceptable to his government."
